Wednesday Aug 22nd: UK life?

Finally had a chance to go to the ASDA Living (ASDA is part of the Wal-Mart family) and pick up some home/living items.  The apartment is missing a lot of things one would expect any living space to have in Canada!  Is this common in Europe?  I have no idea.

- Nowhere to put/hang a toilet paper roll.  I guess they use stands?  I bought a toilet roll holder, which really just looks like a paper towel holder, and I had it up on the ledge, but it was really high and awkward to reach behind every time I needed it.  Now it's on the floor but it still doesn't seem to be in the right place.

- A glass piece stops the water from coming out of the shower but it is only half the length of the bathtub and there is no rail from which to hang shower curtains.  It was the same in the hotel.
 - No rails on which to hang towels, but there are heated towel rails!  (Since this post was started and this picture was taken, I have since hung towels on it, because otherwise there is nowhere else in the bathroom to hang towels.)

- Nowhere to hang drapes/curtains in the main living room/kitchen.   Now that's a little weird because I don't know how the previous residents lived without them when you have 10 other neighbours in the building across the courtyard who can see straight into your living space.

- We have no overhead kitchen cupboards either and the oven is tiny.  My housemate's and my dilemma was, "how do we roast a turkey in here for Thanksgiving?!"
