A snapshot of the bookstore (Waterstone's). There is a set of stairs on the side to go up to the Starbucks which overlooks the bookstore, like an indoor balcony.
Socially and environmentally conscious eating is not hard to find.
- Fair Trade Cane Sugar (it didn't say "white" on the front, which is what "fine" sugar in Canada usually is, so I stupidly took "granulated" to mean granulated brown)
- Environmentally responsible Plain white flour (there are so many kinds of sugar and flour and each label suggests the type of baking it is good for)
- Whole British cow's milk
- Unrefrigerated free range eggs. The caged ones were on the bottom of the shelf marked "CAGED".
Did you know, the European Union banned battery cages (where the chickens are squished together to eat, lay eggs, and excrete) earlier this year? There are still criticisms of "enriched" cages where chickens can move to get feed and lay in nesting boxes, but it's one step. Apparently, there is less of a risk of salmonella in eggs from pasteurized, non-chemically treated chickens, so that eggs really don't need to be refrigerated unless being kept for more than a few days.
And...I built my IKEA coat stand, which I like very much :P
There are umbrella hooks at mid-level, too.
See the lack of curtains at the "balcony" door at the back?!
(There's just a rail out there, no place to step out. People manage to put flower pots against the rail although it's a wonder they don't fall in through the gap between the building wall and the rail!)
